IAAS takes on European Association Presidency

At the Annual General Meeting of the European Association of Livestock Markets (AEMB) held on Saturday, 19 May 2012 at Low Wood, Windermere, Andrew Wright, Executive Secretary of the Institute of Auctioneers and Appraisers in Scotland was elected President of the AEMB. Andrew wright said in his address ‘I am honoured to become President of the AEMB and look forward to working with colleagues to safeguard the future of the livestock marketing system which is vital to protect free trade and competitive marketing throughout Europe.’

Background

European Association of Livestock Markets (AEMB), representing about 600 livestock markets. These markets are responsible for the sale (whether by auction or private treaty) of about 35 million head of cattle, sheep, pigs and horses. More information can be found at www.uecbv.eu/en/aemb/about.php

Andrew Wright has been a auctioneer for 30 years, qualifying as a member of the IAAS in 1985. Andrew was appointed as Executive Secretary of the IAAS in 2006 and a AEMB board member in 2007. He also is an auctioneer and Operations Manager at Mitchells Auction Co Ltd, Cockermouth,
